About the Item
Three textured glass cocoon shapes in clear, charcoal grey and black are curated vertically in this unique wall sculpture by Julia Reimer. Inspired by nature, the elements resemble cocoons or because they are each pierced with a round hole, bird's nests such as that of the oriole. Direct light on the work casts shimmering shadows on the wall behind. Installed side by side the work measures 15 x 18 x 5 inches. A staggered vertical installation measures 35 x 17 x 5 inches. This sculpture can be installed in various arrangements. Each piece is secured to the wall with a pin and bolt mechanism. All hardware is included.
Reimer's original designs and meticulous craftsmanship have been recognized through scholarships and awards from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The Corning Museum of Glass and the Canada Council for the Arts. As well, her work is featured in the publication 500 Glass Objects and she is the inaugural recipient of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery’s National Award for Excellence.

The resulting pieces have a history/story built into the surface, which encompass the optic qualities of glass and light.” Susan Rankin She graduated with honors from Sheridan College, Oakville Ontario, in 1989 and received a three-year artist in residency at the Harbourfront Centre glass studio.
