About the Item
Traces VII is a unique concrete sculpture by contemporary English sculptor Oliver Ashworth-Martin, dimensions are 39 × 13 × 13 cm (15.4 × 5.1 × 5.1 in).
This sculpture is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Australian flora is known for its seed pods, which are a prominent feature of the sculptures in the "Traces" series. After being poured into concrete, these seedpods are burned. Fossilised imprinted shapes from the fire are still visible. The industrial material has distinct traces left by the natural resin and carbon.
Oliver Ashworth-Martin often includes natural elements in his drawings and sculptures, taking inspiration from the diversity and vastness of Australian vegetation. Mathematical harmony of patterns and richness of shapes and textures are revealed by him through abstraction, magnification, or contrast with inorganic materials (like metal). His explanations provide viewers with a fresh perspective on their surroundings.
