Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel Furniture
Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel was a German artist and painter, born in 1881, in Wunsiedel, Germany. He is without doubt one of the most important animal painters of the 1900s. With his numerous animal portraits, executed in various techniques, he is a sensitive observer of exotic animals and of the native fauna. He has developed a range of different objects for the Wiener Werkstätte, such as glasses, fabrics and commercial graphics. His design for an animal fresco for Palais Stoclet, in Brussels, Belgium, is particularly worthy of mention.
Ludwig has received great recognition for his illustrations of animal fables using colored woodcuts. Even during his lifetime, the artist received numerous awards, including the Grand Austrian State Prize for Visual Art in 1937. He was a member of Vienna’s Künstlerhaus, from 1924 onwards and regularly presented his work in exhibitions.
