Black and Ivory Winged Straw Pancake Boater Hat with Rear Bows – S, 1930s
About the Item
From the famed San Antonio department store Joske’s, the first fully air conditioned store in Texas. Boasting over 550,000 square feet of space, Joske’s was like a city within a city where customers could purchase a custom saddle, visit a lending library and book a vacation all while doing their shopping. This hat is a perfect example of their exceptional clothing and captures the playfulness of the era’s accessories.
Forward-sloping straw pancake hat with hidden calot-style crown and grosgrain ribbon band; two fixed decorative bows at center rear. Two large ivory straw loops point forward from hat center to resemble wings. Grosgrain interior sweatband; fully lined in black buckram.
