New Sealed Scott Paper Caper Black and White Op Art Paper Dress – S, 1966

About the Item

The dress that started it all, this Scott Paper Company shift was an advertising gimmick used to promote the company’s disposable tableware collection in 1966. A perfect vehicle for the youthful prints and informal styles that accompanied the cultural revolution, the dress became an immediate success, with over a half million orders for the piece in its first year and countless copycat designs in the years that followed. It now hangs in every major fashion museum in the world. Sleeveless knee length shift dress with wide scoop neckline; trapeze silhouette with graduated hemline slightly longer in back than front. Single right side patch pocket. Pullover styling with no closures of any kind; unlined. fabric: “Dura Weave” wood pulp and rayon-coated opaque “padded” paper noteworthy: do not wash or wet; after wearing turn inside out and hang outdoors; dress was marketed as disposable, and should either be stored as collectible or worn very sparingly as it will not withstand regular use condition: new in sealed original package* measurements: neckline opening: 10 ½” across neckline plunge: 3 ½” bust: 38” waist: 42” hips: 45” length: 37” from shoulder in front (38” in back), 30” from underarm in front (31” in back) sweep: 51” label: Paper Caper by Scott size: no size tag present; comparable to size small *photos from another of the very same dress in our collection were used for this listing; the dress you receive is in its original sealed package and has never been removed for photography or wear.
