Mollie Parnis Silver Sequin Ice Blue Knit Lame Jersey Dress, 1970s

About the Item

Crack open a 1970s - era Vogue or Harper’s and you’ll surely see a fashion spread featuring garments by American designer Mollie Parnis. A pantsuit version of this ensemble appears in the March 1974 issue of Vogue, where the metallic heels and bouncy hair give you a real sense of its presence. Known for clever updates of classic silhouettes, this disco magic dress marries comfort with glam. The knit base incorporates Lurex®, a yarn that has a glittery metallic layer fused into it. The dress is covered with hundreds of sequins that give a satisfying drape to the material, and an overall shimmer to the design. A great dress for a slim fit or ample curves, the sequins catch the light as they follow the body. From the mock neck, a smooth, close fit around the shoulders moves down into a slight flutter sleeve that adds an extra touch of diva to this dazzling dress. It is slightly fitted through the waist and gently falls from the hip to an ankle-length hemline with controlled flounces. Although a simple silhouette, this vintage Mollie Parnis dress speaks volumes and is the perfect spotlight piece for a party or event. Size estimate: SML/MED Shoulders: 16 inches Sleeves: 23.5 inches Bust: 34 - 36 inches Waist: 28 - 30inches Hips: 36-37 inches Length: 56 inches Unlined, this dress closes at the back with a centered zip and hooks-and-eyes at the neck. In very good condition, with mild wear. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.

  • Incredible Rare Issey Miyake Pleats Please Avant Garde Color Block Dress
    By Issey Miyake
    Located in Boca Raton, FL
Futuristic designer Issey Miyake has mastered the technique of creating sculptural works of art in cloth. His innovative pattern cutting and signature use of micro pleating give his garments a unique form. As one of the earliest designers to take on this style of fashion, Miyake is held in high regard as a pioneer of these creative, out-of-this-world fashions. From the Pleats Please line, this rare collector’s dress is done in a pleated fabric in shades of midnight blue, electric purple, red, magenta, cerulean, chartreuse, brown, sage, and neon green. The bright colors have a prismatic quality that makes the dress pop visually, giving the eye something new to appreciate from each angle while elevating this garment to a work of art. The dress begins with a high straight neckline and long sleeves that reach the wrists. The front of the dress is fitted throughout, creating an elegant sheath that falls to a maxi length several inches above the ankles. The body of the dress is done in midnight blue pleats with a section of purple at the bust and a section of neon green near the hem that draws the eye. Thigh-high slits at each side of the dress allow for greater ease of movement while introducing a welcome risqué element that helps balance the volume of material on display. Size: Small Measurements: Bust: 32 inches Waist: 30 inches Length: 50 inches An incredible panel at the back of the dress is made up of a vivid patchwork of color-blocked fabric, adding extra depth and gravitas to this Avant Garde masterpiece. The top of the panel can be folded over the front of the shoulders to create a curving, cocoon-like shawl, or folded together at the back like wings at rest. The panel spans the entire length of the dress and is slightly higher at the neck, adding volume and a delightful sculptural element to the otherwise columnar silhouette of the dress. An unforgettable addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this rare Issey Miyake Pleats Please dress is the perfect choice for a wedding, gala, or special occasion, and is sure to turn heads for many years to come. This vintage Issey Miyake dress...

This 1960s Tony Armstrong evening dress is cut in a classic and flattering column silhouette with a high rounded neckline and short, slightly capped sleeves. The front is very lightly embroidered with fine blue thread in a criss-cross pattern. This continues round to the back of the dress, where a concealed original metal zipper ensures a smooth and seamless fit. A pair of right and left darts to the front and back emphasises the waist. The fabric is a very fine quality peacock blue raw silk with a satin sheen to it whilst it is fully lined in a lilac coloured acetate. A best fit for around a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. Superb vintage condition and looks barely worn, we noted only a small area of discoloration to the lining near both the sleeve underarms but this is totally unseen when worn. Tony Armstrong was a British couture...
