Known for his glamorous evening dresses, perfumes, and costume jewelry, Tunisian-born fashion designer Loris Azzaro created sensual, Avant Garde looks that are still highly sought after today. His designs have been worn by many celebrated beauties, including the likes of Sophia Lauren, Brigitte Bardot, and Raquel Welch. Photographed by renowned fashion photographer Helmut Newton, this documented circa 1972 top is an exquisite example of Azzaro’s work.
Done in gold and silver lurex accented with gold and silver chains, this beautiful top is ethereal and bold at once. The bodice begins with a scoop neckline and three-quarter-length sleeves made up of glittering gold and silver chains that move beautifully with the wearer. The bodice is adorned with chains throughout, creating a fish-scale pattern that evokes everything from chain mail to fairy tales about mermaids. The hem of the top is made up of masterfully draped chains that crisscross and overlap, creating a mesmerizing pattern that complements the sleeves and brings the look together visually.
