19th Century Faux Tortoise Shell Spring Loaded Lorgnette Glasses
About the Item
Late 19th Century imitation tortoise lorgnette magnifier glasses with a spring loaded mechanism for easy folding and storage. The gold tone metal frames fold open by depressing a button on the handle shaft, shown in photograph 6. A ring at the end of the handle can be used to attach the lorgnette to a chain for easy wear. Perfect for a dapper gent or a lady of leisure. No maker's mark.
CONDITION
Good antique condition with some darkened patina to the metal and light scratching to the faux tortoise surface. There is a small nick to the backside of the tortoise handle as shown in photograph 12 and an apparent inclusion shown in photograph 13 that does not appear to be a crack.
