Tibetan Leather Painted Trunk
About the Item
A charming Tibetan painted leather storage trunk, 18th century, Tibet.
Of smaller size, the softwood construction of the trunk covered by a richly tanned yak leather. The central panel, also of leather, painted in a floral motif, somewhat reminiscent of the traditional leopard or tiger skin patch found on other trunks.
The hardware of rustic, hand-forged wrought iron. The clasp of cast bronze with a lacquer-like finish from years of applied yak butter.
