Japanese Edo Six Panel Screen Kano School Applied Vignettes
About the Item

The senmen byobu screen features 24 individual vignettes depicting various scenes with figures, animals, flora, and fauna. The Kano artists include Kano Tojand and Kano Togaku. The scenes are round, rectangular, and fan shaped giving the screen an interesting composition and harmony. The background has a rich patina of gold leaf specks over mulberry paper with a diverse finish. The screen is set in a black lacquered ebonized frame with a light silk brocade border.
