Toyohara Kunichika Japanese Triptych Woodblock Print of Kabuki Theater Actors
About the Item
A wonderfully composed, beautifully, and richly colored triptych woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Toyohara Kunichika featuring four dramatic and quite intense Kabuki theatre actors. The arresting and bold colors really make this scene something to behold.
Toyohara Kunichika (豊原 国周; 30 June 1835 – 1 July 1900) was a ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock print artist who as a youth studied under renowned printmaker, Utagawa Kunisada. Kunichika became quite well known for his works of yakusha-e - woodblock prints of Edo and Meiji kabuki actors and scenes from popular plays of the time.
From an impressive collection of Japanese artworks and prints (of which we will be listing other prints).
Would be a great addition to any Japanese art or print collection or an eye-catching stand-alone accent piece once framed.
