Tsuchiya Koitsu Signed Japanese Showa Woodblock Print Hakozaki Hachimangu Temple
About the Item
A wonderfully composed, beautiful image by renowned Japanese artist/printmaker Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870 - 1949) titled "Hakozaki Hachimangu Temple, Kyushu (Hakozaki Hachimangu)" features a tranquil village scene. Two women in brightly colored kimonos stroll through the village - a large red-painted wooden temple with large lanterns affixed to the pillars in the background and tall, leaning pine trees frame the view, casting shadows across the grounds below. A visually striking and gorgeous image.
The print is signed by Koitsu in blank ink and with his red seal/stamp at the lower right corner.
Tsuchiya Koitsu was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan. He was a very important artist in the Shin-Hanga ("new prints" movement in early 20th-century Japan, during the Taishō and Shōwa periods, that revitalized the traditional ukiyo-e art rooted in the Edo and Meiji periods.
A lovely image. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting.
The print has been framed.
