A Pair of Cast Iron French Garden Urns
About the Item
A superb pair of antique French cast iron garden urn planters circa 1900. These elegant campana jardinieres are the quintessential classic French garden urns. While originally used outdoors they can be used indoors as dramatic accessories to traditional or modern rooms. This pair closely follows the form of Greek originals, carved in stone. The base is a simple square pedestal and the reservoir of the urn is embossed with a family crest crown and the initials of the original owners. The interior shows considerable rust, which is expected, and the turquoise paint on the exterior is enhanced by rust and discoloration. The urns are quietly impressive.
