About the Item
A Very Rare and Unusual George II Bowl and Cover Made in London in 1746 by Gabriel Sleath.
The Bowl is modelled in a very unusual design and stands on a spreading pedestal foot decorated with reeded bands. The shallow circular main body has a slightly baluster form and rises to an everted rim. The stepped, pull off, cover is decorated with reeding and terminates in a ball finial. The bowl is of outstanding quality and is fully marked in the foot and on the cover. This piece is of a very good gauge and weight as would be expected from this silversmith. His major works are the wine cisterns in the Hermitage and that in the Grocer's Company in London.
