About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English cast sterling silver taperstick made by William Cafe; an addition of AC Silver's ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George III cast sterling silver taperstick has a circular rounded form with a shaped figural column.
The cylindrical capital of this cast silver taperstick is encircled with moulded girdles, in addition to a bead decorated border to the rim.
The capital surmounts a circular drip pan, ornamented with further bead ornamentation.
The exceptional cast sterling silver column has been modeled in the form of a Harlequin.
This impressive figural column surmounts a domed circular shaped base ornamented with scrolling leaf ornamentation.
This taperstick does not have a weighted base.
This impressive Georgian taper candlestick was crafted by the renowned London silversmith William Cafe.
An antique Harlequin takes the form of a monkey/masked character dressed in a diamond patterned costume. 'Harlequin' is a well-known Zanni character type from the Italian Commedia dell'arte and his role was to be a light-hearted, nimble and astute servant.
Condition
This antique cast silver taperstick is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the candlestick are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

These impressive antique American sterling silver tapersticks have an octofoil panelled form, replicating the details of a Classic English George I style. The plain panelled waisted cylindrical capitals are encircled with protruding scalloped borders to the rims. Each plain waisted column bears a panelled bulbous knop to the upper portion and further scalloped decoration to the lower. The columns surmount octagonal shaped, incurved bases with a sunken well and plain collet style rim. Each candlestick does not have a weighted base. The underside of each base bears the maker's mark 'James Robinson' and 'sterling' standard mark. Condition These antique tapersticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
