About the Item
Pair of bookends in patinated bronze. "Elephants". After models by Ary Bitter (1883-1960).
Lost wax casting.
The elephants are placed on a base that extends into an L-shape. One has its back against the vertical crossbar and only three legs are supported. It lifts its trunk to shuffle, giving the impression that it is pushing hard. The other rests its back against the vertical crossbar, as if pushing. They are inspired by models by Ary Bitter, a French designer, painter and sculptor, highly appreciated for his animal sculptures.
