Pascale Girardin
Pascale Girardin is a Canadian ceramic artist whose work ranges from functional tableware to large-scale architectural installations. She has gained international recognition, collaborating with some of the world’s top design firms on projects that include the Shanghai’s Four Seasons Place, New York’s Peninsula Hotel, Paris’ Printemps department store and Dubai’s Al Badia Golf Club, among many others.
Originally trained as a painter, Girardin has contributed to the dynamism of contemporary ceramics by exploring and investing spaces with her large-scale architectural installations. Whether suspended in mid-air, grazing a wall or floating in the water, her works evoke nature’s omnipresence and organic structure, subtly underlying our fundamental relationship with the world we live in. In the past few years, Girardin has broadened her practice by using new materials such as aluminum, cast resin, polycarbonate and wood. Deriving from her ceramic practice, these works permit her to develop large structures previously unachievable due to the technical limitations of clay. Girardin also designs and produces dishware for high-end restaurants in North America (J&G Grill, Nobu, le Toqué!), supporting the notion that the art of living and the life of a work of art are intrinsically linked.

- Okeanos Touch Lamp, Matt BlackBy Massimo MarcominiLocated in Mantova, MNThe finest ceramic, crafted in the Venetian tradition, takes the shape of shells, corals and sea creatures straddling myth and reality, to decorate a timeless amphora. The sea, ancient art, and Classical Antiquity, reimagined with a modern eye, join forces with hi-tech LED lighting to create an elegant table lamp of unique allure, named after the primeval sea god. Thanks to its innovative touch system, the lamp’s Plexiglas pane can be switched and adjusted by touching the ceramic pedestal. The light source is a 7W LED strip with 3000K, 411 lumen and 100-240V voltage. To the Ancient Greeks Okeanos was the primeval god of waters, the immense sea/river that springs from itself and in itself flows again, encompassing the whole world in water. Homer’s poetry makes him into the beginning of all things, the eternal origin of all the seas, rivers and springs – in an endless cycle of flowing life energy. Les First...Category
