Mottled Deep Blue Hand Built Ceramic Totem, Wide Oval on Curved Foot
About the Item
Mottled deep blue with light and dark areas, this amazing matte glaze surface was the result of a mistake in glaze chemistry and boy am I glad! It reminds me of Yves Klein Blue, a deep and intense blue that I can never get enough of. Hopefully I can repeat it and you will see more of this color. But this is the first. A small hand formed ceramic Oval Totem sitting on a curved foot. Simple but carrying much weight and expression. Part of an ongoing study of the Totemic form. Hand Built with sculptural stoneware clay, fired twice.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
