Bronze Cheval De Marly in the Style of Guillaume Coustou, circa 1930
About the Item
Bronze statue in the style of Guillaume Marly.
The horses of Marly were commissioned by Louis XV to sculptor Guillaume Coustou to decorate the entrance of the park of Marly castle. In 1794, the marble statues of Carrara were transferred to Place de la Concorde in Paris where a replica is still visible.
The original statues are kept in the Louvre.
These statues have inspired many sculptors and there are many reproductions. This representation is in brown bronze with a golden patina. As on the original statues, the emotions of the horse and his groom are beautifully represented.
