Vintage Lost Wax Cast Bronze Foo Dog Sculptures with Bronze Patina
About the Item
Vintage lost wax cast bronze foo dog sculptures from the mid 20th century. We currently have three with bronze patina (no more verde patina), both of which are showcased in the photo. They are priced $350 each. Created with the traditional technique of the lost-wax (à la cire Perdue) which allows great precision in the details, each of these two foo dog sculptures features a guardian lion reclining on a polygonal base. As is common with foo dogs, their mouths are open. The name foo dog is actually a mistake made in the west. In reality these imperial Chinese guardians are lions, which were believed to have powerful mythic, protective benefits and often sat outside government buildings and temples. A great decorative addition to any home décor!
