French Bisque Porcelain Group of Venus and Cupid, Mid 19th Century
About the Item
An exquisite bisque porcelain figure of Venus and Cupid from the mid nineteenth century, French, with incised crossed swords mark and another device etched on the base.
Photos don't do justice to the exquisite detail of this piece, which features a glorious garland of intricate flowers and petals cascading from Venus' figure down along the rockery. A very tender grouping with wonderful expressions on both figures.
Photographed in artificial light as well as natural light to show that beautiful shadows and variations in tone on the white porcelain. This piece looks gorgeous even in silhouette.
In wonderful condition with tiny losses that are barely noticeable, including the middle finger of Cupid's right hand, and the toes of his left foot. Small pinprick hole on the back of the figure which has a tiny dark stain.
