A bulbous blue glazed earthenware vase designed by french Art Déco designer Charles Catteau for the belgian factory Boch Frères Keramis in the 1920s. The exterior is decorated with tropical plant-like relief designs reminiscent of René Lalique's style. The blue glaze covers the exterior while the interior remains unglazed and unpainted.
In 1904, as a young man, Catteau moved to La Louvière, Belgium where he began working for Boch Frères Keramis. His sleek molded forms and stylized designs epitomize the Art Déco aesthetic of the 1920s, combining elegant shapes with natural motifs. This vase exemplifies Catteau's mastery of graceful form and color, and refined decoration during his time at Boch Frères Keramis, showcasing his talent for elevating functional ceramic objects into sublime pieces.
