About the Item
French Art Pottery Metenier blue ceramic vase pot
Made from stoneware and signed on the base by ‘G.Métenier’ for Gilbert Metenier. An artist potter who worked from 1907 until 1940 noted for his variety of shapes and interesting experimental glaze effects of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The work of Metenier is becoming increasingly prized by a growing number of discriminating collectors.
A beautiful dusky matte blue with a velvety finish flowing down over a glossy brown and ochre body which has twin handles.
Modelled by hand and in perfect state and original condition. With incised signature in scratched out 'al pointe' form rather than stamped suggesting it was handmade piece by Gilbert Métenier himself as opposed to from his studio.
Color: Blue, mustard, tan, yellow ochre, brown and beige.

Gilbert Metenier
Gilbert Méténier took over his father's company at the start of the 1920's. In June, 1940, however, when German troops arrived, the factory was closed, Méténier destroyed the moulds, leaving the region, perhaps for the South of France.
