Antique Japanese Silver Presentation Bowl
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Japanese pure silver presentation bowl; part of our Asian silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Japanese silver bowl has a circular rounded form onto a plain circular spreading collet foot.
This bowl has a double skin, as to be expected for this type of high quality silverware.
The surface of this fine antique presentation bowl is embellished with impressive applied Japanese cherry blossom/sakura designs.
The shaped rim of the bowl is encompassed with an applied moulded border.
The underside of the bowl is ornamented with the contemporary engraved inscription 'To Mr & Mrs G Osborn from Mr & Mrs K Okura, 1917'.
The hallmarks to the underside of this impressive bowl include:
Maker's mark: character mark for 'Miya Moto Made' (Miyamoto Made, Miyamoto Shoko)
Silver quality/purity mark: character mark with dark background (pure silver, 1000/1000)
There is a strong probability, that K Okura refers to Kihachiro Okura (or possibly his son, Kishchiro Okura), founding members of Okura Shukokan, the Tokyo Art Museum, established in 1917.
Miyamoto Shoko, silversmiths since 1880, created items for the Japanese Government and Royal family, and handled pieces made by the nation's top-class craftsment in the early 1900s, as such, they were highly esteemed.
Condition
This antique Japanese silver bowl is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in fine condition. The bowl has been professionally polished an is in presentation condition. The Japanese hallmarks struck to the underside of the bowl are all very clear.
