"Flint glass refers to glass made with powdered flint and later lead, produced in the United States and the United Kingdom from the 1820's through the 1860's. The term flint glass was given to better glassware, perfected in England, because powdered flint was added to the glass formula to improve clarity. It should be noted that the lead in this glass is in an unbreakable chemical bond and will not contaminate the food or drink it holds.
