Midcentury French Ceramic Lidded Pitcher by Le Mûrier, 'circa 1960s'
About the Item
Midcentury French ceramic pitcher by Gustave Reynaud for Le Mûrier (circa 1960s). A delightful piece with Reynaud's signature style, chalk-white colour with red foliage motif and stylised French coq. A charming bell-shaped cover with painted red band adds interest and links the lid with the base. The team of Reynaud and his famous brother-in-law, Jean Derval, combined to design and make Le Mûrier's best pieces and this is a beautiful example of their work. In very good overall condition. The interior of the jar is beige at the base and milky-white nearer the lip. Maker's mark on the base, Le Mûrier's trademarked mulberry leaf. Upon request, a video will be provided. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing.
About the Artist: Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery, Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree), in Vallauris, France in 1955. He produced earthenware designed in conjunction with his well known brother-in-law, Jean Derval, as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter JF Descombes and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
