Meissen Hand Painted Porcelain Figurine Of A Greek Mythology’s Muse

About the Item

A Meissen Porcelain Greek Mythology’s Muse figurine playing the Lute. She can be Erato, the muse of lyric poetry, particularly erotic poetry and mimic imitation. It depicts a lady dressed with a pink, beige and blue robe, but with semi bare upper chest. A rose and a round brooch adorn her hair. She is seated barefoot in a neoclassical gilt white pedestal decorated with scrolls in each corner and a relief of musical instruments and foliages in each of its walls. She is playing a brown and black color Lute. The porcelain is marked with the Meissen hallmark blue crossed swords below the inside of the base. The excellent details on the expressive face and the inclination of her body while playing the instrument are examples of the Meissen porcelain factory.
