Sarreguemines French Majolica Pottery Wall Pocket, circa 1885
About the Item
A very fine antique French art pottery Majolica wall pocket by Sarreguemines and dating from circa 1880-1890. The lightly pottery wall pocket is modeled as a basket with a pierced rim containing flowers which are applied to the front and to the back plate. The piece is hand painted with the basket weave decorated in naturalistic light brown colors with the flowers picked out in naturalistic colors. The inner basket is finished in customary turquoise glazes and back in natural glazes with a white finish. The pocket is impressed SARREGUEMINES MAJOLICA and is numbered 534. The wall pocket is offered in excellent condition with age crazing to the inner turquoise glazes and a tiny amount of glaze roughs around the hanging hole to the top.
