Antique Georgian Irish Sterling Silver Tray/Salver, 1833
About the Item
We are delighted to offer this Magnificent solid silver Georgian tray/salver made in Dublin 1833 by James Fray.
The salver presents an array of remarkable and striking features such as the applied cast-silver border, an intricately chased inner wreath and a fine engraving of military interest in the centre.
The cast-silver border is profusely decorated in rococo fashion with vine leaves, grapes and acanthus scrolls - all intricately interwoven and pierced to form a majestic outer border.
The inner wreath is equally noteworthy with a superbly chased design consisting of acanthus leaves, flowers and Griffin figures.
The centre of the salver is beautifully engraved with a Crest and the following message:
"Presented to Lieutenant Colonel Gustavus Rochfort by the Nobility, Gentry, Clergy, and Freeholders of the County of Westmeath"The salver is supported by three cast-silver feet.
The salver presents full Irish hallmarks that are clearly marked on the top of the inner wreath.
This salver most certainly presents a magnificent and intricate charm to its design whilst also retaining a practical size allowing for numerous uses. With a touch of creativity, this piece could be used on multiple occasions for display, or usage with food, desserts or presentation amongst other silverware.
