A Very Fine 18th Century Georgian Onslow Pattern Sterling Silver Stuffing Spoon
About the Item
A very fine & elegant 18th century George III sterling silver serving spoon in the Onslow pattern, showing an elongated bowl on a slender stem continuing to a fluted handle with a fan-shaped & scrolled ‘Onslow’ terminal.
The underside of the bowl showing a rat-tail heel, the stem bearing impressed London hallmarks with date letter for 1774 and makers marks for Robert Ross.
Measuring 11.5” long x 1.75” wide (across the bowl) x .75" high (from the heel to the tip). Weight, 96 grams.
Robert Ross is recorded as having registered his mark in 1774 and is recognized as having been a highly regarded spoon specialist.
The Onslow pattern was purportedly named in honour of noted 18th century British Speaker of the House, Arthur Onslow (1691- 1768).
