From the Rush Limbaugh Collection Korhogo Cloth from Ivory Coast of Africa
About the Item
This is a hand spun, hand woven and hand painted cotton cloth for which an entire village takes part in its creation. Women of the Korhoga Tribe spin the cotton, while the men weave and sew the cloth into a large canvas. The women make fermented dye which is painted onto the story cloth. Each figure represents symbolic meaning. Each cloth tells a unique story. This cloth teaches us the lesson that every being in the world is responsible for nurturing youth. The swallow's face looks forward toward the future. The crocodile and fish at the top represent fertility and abundance.
