- Rare Angelo Ostuni for O-Luce Floor Lamp with Ocher Yellow ShadeBy O-Luce, Angelo OstuniLocated in Waalwijk, NLAngelo Ostuni for O-Luce, floor lamp, model '312 V2', Carrara marble, brass, coated aluminum, Italy, 1949 This floor lamp is designed by the influential designer in the field of lighting design Angelo Ostuni in 1949 which his brother Giuseppe took into production for their new established lighting design company 'O-Luce'. His first models designed between 1946 and 1948 were made in a more traditional manner to suit the taste of the Milanese upper-middle class. Ostuni's shift in his design approach is clearly displayed in the features of this designed model. Not only is this lamp aesthetically pleasing, it is clearly designed to provide a light source to adjust to one's own requirement. O-Luce manufactured an extremely complicated construction of rollers and springs inside the lamp bar (less than 15mm circumference) which allowed a smooth height adjustment without any cable impingement. Combined with a precision ball joint at the base, this lamp has an almost unlimited rotating telescopic flexibility. In addition, the cone-shaped aluminum shade coated in ocher yellow can be rotated to change the direction of the light partition. In 1950, Angelo Ostuni and his brother received international recognition for their exceptional lighting designs, mostly for the application of adjustable features in their designs which was highly innovative during that period. Angelo Ostuni (1904-1981) was an Italian designer and the elder brother of Giuseppe Ostuni (1907-1994) who established the Italian lighting company O-Luce. Together, they collaborated on numerous of designs for O-Luce that became one of Italy's leading lighting design companies. Angelo Ostuni was born in Trieste, Italy in 1904, when the city was part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Ten years later, the First World War began. In 1915 Italy declared war on the Habsburg Empire and soon the Italian army bombed Trieste in May 1915. The Ostuni family endured some difficult times and eventually moved to Milan in 1919. Angelo enrolled into the Instituto Tecnico of Milan. From a young age, he showed a special talent for drawing. La Fiamma...Category

- Giuseppe Ostuni for O-Luce '181' Multi Applicable LightsBy Giuseppe Ostuni, O-LuceLocated in Waalwijk, NLGiuseppe Ostuni for O-Luce, large set of '181' wall lamps, Italy, 1950s This large set of wall lights is applicable to many different ways. Attach the lamp to a desk or a table and use it as a desk light, fix it to case piece or secure to the wall. Its dark metal, cylindrical shade is minimalistic and modest. You can place one piece for Directional light, or several to lighten up a complete space. Giuseppe Ostuni (1907-1994) can be considered one of the most influential designers in modern lighting design. Born in Trieste, Italy in 1907, Giuseppe and his older brother Angelo Ostuni (1904-1981) grew up in turbulent times; in 1915 Italy declared war on the Habsburg Empire during the First World War. Only a few years later in 1922, Benito Mussolini became head of the Italian government and began to establish his fascist regime that would last till 1943. During the last year of the Second World War, Giuseppe Ostuni and his family lived with his brother Angelo in Milan. There, Giuseppe started to repair lampshades that had been damaged during the war. New lampshades were made with limited resources, all by hand, due to the lack of available materials. As an autodidact, he designed modern and convenient lighting through intense study and ‘learning by doing’. Soon after, Giuseppe set up his own workshop in 1947, and in 1948 he officially registered his company ‘O-LUCE’. Together with his brother Angelo, who made a great part of the lighting drawings, he worked on numerous designs and worked together with leading designers as Franco Buzzi, Tito Angoli...Category
