FF Mirror 1
About the Item
Loosely inspired by sedimentary stone, a cast form seems to extend out from the wall only to be cleanly sliced and reveal a mirrored surface. Fully sculptural and fully functional.
About the Future Fossils Collection
Future Fossils is a collection of new works by Simon Johns, using mimicry in materials, loosely referencing the sedimentary striations in million years old stone. This collection explores positives and negatives of both extrusions and voids, in both gypsum cement and slip-cast stoneware. The traces of natural looking elements are preserved into mold-like volumes, structured into aluminum grids and more free-form geometries. The pieces are really furniture, but also seem like documents, celebrating the traces of something lost.
The Future Fossils collection won Best Furniture Collection when it was launched at ICFF in NYC in 2022.

Simon Johns
Simon Johns is a Canadian fine arts-trained designer working out of the woods in southern Quebec. He approaches design with hands-on studio experiments closer to sculpture than to design. His work draws from relations between the manufactured product and the raw surroundings of the studio's wooded location. His work has been shown at Sight Unseen Offsite for NY Design Week in 2016 and 2017, at Wanted Design Manhattan 2016 and 2017, and at the Toronto Design Offsite (TODO) 2017 and 2018.

- Shale Mirror in Black by Simon JohnsBy Simon JohnsLocated in East-Bolton, QuebecBringing the serenity of the outdoors into the home, the Shale mirror has a distinct texture carved across the frames surface that seems to reach beyond it's limits. The solid ash surface is scored vertically across the grain, and the drawing of Simon Johns’ textures of a crumbling cliff's facade is delicately carved into it. Patterns within the carving and the wood's grain create optical illusions depending on the lights orientation, making it as striking from afar as from up close. Due to the hand-carved facade...Category

- FF Grid Shelving 1By Simon JohnsLocated in East-Bolton, QuebecA slender tower-like sculptural bookcase, made from a rigid hand polished aluminum structure. Through the grid-like structure, a cast form of the collection's signature texture flows continuously through the layers. The polishing of the aluminum creates illusions of transparency on the outside, and interiors that glow, reflecting the light from the room. *Note: The model pictured has been sold, but commissions are available.
