About the Item
Child's Multi shell chair - By Architect Kristian Solmer Vedel - Designed in Denmark
This multi chair was designed 1951 and produced between 1956-58 by manufacturer Torben Örskov & Co. A/S, Copenhagen.
Kristian Vedel was one of the first to take the design of furniture for children seriously. The result is a functional, modern looking chair taking into account the way a child sit, move and play. The chair is easy to adapt to a growing child and when turned over, the chair can be used for play.
This laminated beech multi chair was influenced by Kaare Klint and the principles of simplicity and functionality of Bauhaus. The pieces are held in place by tension, resulting in a design with no screws, nails and bolts. Awarded silver medal at La Triennale di Milano 1957.
