Royal circa 1707-1714 Hand Carved Polychrome Painted Armorial Crest Coat of Arms
About the Item
We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare, large for its type, Royal coat of arms / Armorial Crest circa 1707-1714 with original Polychrome paint
This is an exceptionally well made and decorative piece, it is large as mentioned, the full specifications are below but this is over three times the size of the last one I had in stock
It is a carved and polychrome painted Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom,18th century, with supporting lion and unicorn among scrolling foliage, inscribed 'HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE' and 'DIEU ET MON DROIT',
Provenance:
Purportedly from an administrative building in the Caribbean. It has been suggested that the painted coat of arms dates to between 1707 and 1714. The first and fourth quarters bear the three lions of England impaled with the lion of Scotland within a bordure, representing the 1707 Union with Scotland. The second and third quarters show the arms of France and Ireland respectively.
In 1714, when Queen Anne died, the Arms were replaced by the arms of the House of Hanover which did not change till 1801.
In terms of the condition we have cleaned waxed and polished it to ensure none of the original polychrome paint is lost. It has normal age and use related timber shrinkage and general wear, there are some small losses to the timber on some of the tips, nothing you wouldn’t expect from a period piece

- 19th Century French Hand Carved Polychrome and Painted Life-Size Wall CrucifixLocated in Dallas, TXThis important antique carved statue of Christ nailed on the cross was crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1850. Found in a private chapel in the Rhone Valley, the large antique cross features a detailed hand carved sculpture of Jesus nailed on a wooden cross with forged iron nails over his hands and feet. The painted sculpture is well-proportioned, and has realistic details throughout the body, face, and hair. The pediment has the Latin inscription INRI (in John 19:19), which in English translates to "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews", and John 19:20 states that this was written in three languages, Hebrew, Latin, and Greek during the crucifixion of Jesus. The title "King of the Jews" is only used in the New Testament by gentiles, namely by the Magi, Pontius Pilate, and the Roman soldiers. In contrast, the Jewish leaders use the designation "King of Israel". Although the phrase "King of the Jews" is used in most English translations, it has also been translated "King of the Judeans". The life-size religious crucifix...Category
