1968 2001 A Space Odyssey

About the Item

A sought after superb copy of the first edition of Arthur C. Clarke's most important sci-fi novel. The first U.K. edition, first impression. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. For many years Arthur C. Clarke, along with Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov, were considered the 'Big Three' of science fiction writing. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. This novelised version of the film was published the same year and is based in part on a number of Clarke's short stories, including The Sentinel. Covering a span of over three million years, this novel details the discovery of an alien monolith and the resulting voyage to Jupiter, accompanied by sinister sentient computer HAL. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, fine, with very light bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is very smart, the protective plastic is lifting a very small amount to the head and tail of the rear joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall: Fine
