William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor in The King’s Men theatrical company. Shakespeare was born in April 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon. Despite having one of the most recognizable names in history, not much is known about Shakespeare’s personal life. Little can be confirmed about his family, education and young adult life however there is much speculation. Many scholars believe Shakespeare was the son of a public official, educated at King’s New School in Stratford, married Anne Hathaway, and earned his living as an actor and playwright. Some believe that, due to his questionable education, Shakespeare may not have actually authored his works but it is impossible to prove either way. However, Shakespeare became the most prominent playwright of the time, using iambic pentameter, inventing words and is considered by many to be the world’s greatest dramatist. Overall, the impact of his writing remains widespread after nearly 500 years. Shakespeare died in Stratford-upon-Avon, on April 23, 1616.

- Antique Continental Brooklyn Eagle Case 8K Gold Ladies Pocket WatchLocated in Dayton, OHEarly 20th century 8K gold pocket watch, intricately etched with swirling foliate motif around a bird and leaves on one side and foliate frame with monogram JW on the other. Case: Brooklyn Watch Case Company - Serial Number: 940416 - 8K Gold (A1 Eagle mark) - Interior of case engraved "Frank Hack / Josephine Woodrick. Movement: Continental Watch Company - Swiss - Number 9029 - White face marked C.W. Co, black and red lettering, Arabic numerals, one minute subdial, blue-black iridescent hands. Mechanical / wind up. "The Brooklyn Watch Case Company was established in 1869 and incorporated in 1873 in Brooklyn, New York. The early company manufactured gold and silver cases. However, the silver case line was dropped in favor of their popular gold line. Eventually, the company introduced gold-filled cases as well. In 1888, the copmany introduced its "Granger" product line, a double-stock solid gold case featuring a layer of 14K on the outside and a lower karat solid gold on the inside. This innovative line of cases, available in 18, 16, 6, and 0 sizes, found immediate success in the market. In 1890, the company introduced a case with a patented dust band design. These "dust-proof" cases are uncommon and usually demand a premium in the collector market. In 1893, the company discontinued its "Wheat" case. The same year, Lewis A. Parsons, president of the company, died from a stroke. His son, Frederick E. Parsons, who served as the company's treasurer, died in August 1893 from malaria. The deaths of this father/son duo caused disruption in the momentum of the company. In 1894, the Brooklyn Watch Case Company was absorbed by the Fahys Watch Case Company. Fahys consolidated the offices and relocated the existing stock of the company. However, the company continued to manufacture and sell cases using the popular Brooklyn Watch Case Company name. George E. Fahys, son of Joseph, became president of the Brooklyn Watch Case Company. In 1896, production was also consolidated to the Fahys factory in Sag Harbor, Long Island. A separate entity, Joseph Fahys & Co. became the general sales agent for both companies. Brooklyn appears to have been fully absorbed by Fahys by 1919. Fahys continued to produce standard Brooklyn cases under the Fahys brand." (Source: Pocket Watch Database) "The definitive registration of Continental brand dates to 13th September 1924, by the company Schild et Cie, Manufacture des Montres Octava, Hebdomas et Orator, La Chaux-de-Fonds. INFOSUISSE carries records on history of Continental much earlier than 1924 with the first known registrations appearing in 1881 with Julien Gallet, Chaux-de Fonds being the first owner. At this time, Continental was registered as Continental Time Keeper / Continental Watch Co. Schild et Cie became a well-known producer of Continental Pocket Watches...Category
