English antique Georgian silver mounted moss agate brooch circa 1800

About the Item

This lovely Georgian antique brooch is made from unmarked silver (tested) which is not unusual for jewellery from this early period. The beautifully polished stone tablet is a piece of moss agate with a wonderful natural figured grain that looks much like growing moss, hence the name. The stone is set into a plain silver frame decorated with applied delicate silver scrolls and a matching ball at each end. The hinged pin is made from nickel for extra strength and resilience. This brooch is in good condition, English circa 1800 Height 2cm x width 7cm x depth 1cm Thank you for looking at this very unusual piece of English jewellery which is nearly 225 years old.     An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver snuffer/pen tray made by William Bateman I; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique George III sterling silver snuffer tray has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The surface of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished. The raised rounded border is embellished with an impressive vertebrate band of stylized floral, bud and foliate ornamentation, all on a matte background. The rim of the tray is encompassed with an exceptional applied gadroon decorated border accented with a floral motif to either side and a scrolling leaf decorated design to each corner. The underside of this impressive Georgian snuffer tray bears the silversmith's centre punch mark in addition to the full hallmarks pertaining to the renowned London silversmith William Bateman I.
