Clock Face Numerical Billiards Scorer Oak Cabinet with Rotating Dials
About the Item
An exceptionally rare and fine quality Billiards marker by Thurston of London circa 1860
Constructed from an excellent cut of English oak with a shaped pediment.
There are four revolving circular hand painted discs which are retained behind glazed panels,
each disc is moved by an ebony knob to register the required score.
The upper dials are differentiated from the bottom pair with an ebony dot,
this is how players scores are kept separate, the "Spot dial" and the " Plain dial".
This type of rudimentary billiard scorer is becoming hard to find and it is a pleasure to offer something of portrait shape rather than the normal rectangular scoring boards.
The feel is almost folk art with the gold lettering painted on circular discs which have intern been painted black, this weeks very well with the gold lettering and the colour of the oak.
There is some fading on some of the gold numbers and i have taken several images to show this minimal wear, which is to be expected on a piece of this age,
