Light Up Library Glass Globe on Metal Base by Barrere and Thomas France, 1950s
By Barrère & Thomas, Paris
Located in Atlanta, GA
Girard, Barrere, and Thomas Paris manufactured this impressive terrestrial light-up globe in the 1950s. Geographer J. Forest designed it. This library glass globe is covered with print paper rotating on a chromed metal and aluminum stand. Besides regular countries' maps, there are ocean currents and the main trade routes of the period. The electricity elements were updated to fit US standards. The lamp is in perfect working condition (check pic 2 and 3 with on and off lights).
For a precise dating of this library globe, we used two pieces of information:
1) Mention of Afrique Occidentale Francaise:
French West Africa (in French: Afrique Occidentale Francaise or AOF) was a federation of eight French colonial territories in Africa: Mauritania, Senegal, French Sudan (now Mali), French Guinea...
