Agave Collection Limited Edition Textiles "T.E.8"
About the Item
The "Agave Collection" is a series of limited edition textiles made from the residual fibers from the mezcal industry.
Each of these textiles is designed by Trine Ellitsgaard, Danish-born textile artist based in Oaxaca, and made in indigenous Zapotec communities in Oaxaca México. Trine Ellitstgaard after more than 30 years of living in Oaxaca reached a perfect distillation of the colors, textures, shapes and warmth of Oaxaca and imprinted them on her own Scandinavian eye and aesthetic. The result is a series of breathtaking pieces with a sophistication and elegance that can only be achieved with the love and knowledge of both aesthetic traditions.
The Agave Collection grows from the idea of turning all the wasted leaves that are disposed as a residual of the Mezcal production, which posed a huge problem for communities after the exponential growth of the Mezcal industry. Trine Ellitsgaard found a way to process the disposed leaves, extract the fibers from them and weave to make fantastic and unique pieces of design.
This project has a special focus in the inclusion of woman and elderly people from the Zapotec communities from Oaxaca involved in the production of each textile.
Each of these pieces is then part of a virtuous cycle of turning a problem into an opportunity and turning waste into unique beautiful timeless objects of design.
