About the Item

The Kurdish tribes of northeastern Persia weave a unique style of carpets, colorful and geometric, with particularly warm, mellow reds and yellows. Here four medallions in bright reds, ivory and aubergine stand out against a scatter of small abstract devices and a few more realistic vegetable forms The border is borrowed from the neighboring Turkmen tribes. This c. 1880 nomadic carpet is especially large for the type.
