English Arts and Crafts Period Spindle Back Rush Seated Elm Armchair
About the Item
English Arts and Crafts period elm rush seated spindle back armchair. This armchair has unusual flattened turnings to the back and bobbin turnings on the member under the arm. The double box stretchers connecting the legs make for a sturdy yet not heavy looking armchair. The rushing was replaced in England sometime within the last 5 years. This is an unusual pattern of armchair influenced by William Morris. The seat height is 17 1/2" as rush seated chairs should have a loose pad about an inch thick for more comfort in seating and to protect the rush. Circa 1870. . 21" wide x 17" deep x 36 1/2"hi
