Regency Mahogany Very Comfortable Library Chair c. 1820

About the Item

A handsome and comfortable solid mahogany framed Regency library arm chair with original and substantial brass casters to the front feet. Made by a craftsman and dating from c. 1820 In good and solid condition, the frame without repairs, movement or creaking joints. The seat and back are wide, deep and well padded. The button back with a gentle rake which is very supportive. Heavy and made by hand with well shaped scrolled arm supports and turned and tapered front legs. The back legs with a slight sabre shape which centres the chair and makes it very sturdy. Some superficial marks, bruises and dings to the mahogany legs consistent with age and use but nothing significant or structural and with no breaks or repairs. The fabric is a royal blue velvet in very good condition with no marks or visible wear – the chair has been professionally re-upholstered in the last two decades and has had little use since. Extremely comfortable - a very good quality Regency chair in solid mahogany. This chair would have cost a small fortune when made is not going to fall apart despite 200 years of use. Made by hand from seasoned timbers by a skilled craftsman, this lovely quality chair offers comfort, good service and beauty for hundreds of years to come. A really good quality chair that does not cost the earth. Dimensions are: Max width is 23 inches, depth is 24 inches and height is 35 inches. Floor to seat is 14 inches and floor to top of arms is 21 inches. For metric please multiply by 2.5
