MASP Auditorium Chair by Lina Bo Bardi

About the Item

MASP Auditorium Chair 1948 /re-edited started 2015 The MASP (São Paulo Museum of Art) is well known for its headquarters, a 1968 concrete and glass structure designed by Lina Bo Bardi, whose main body is supported by two lateral beams over a 74 metres (243 ft) freestanding space.[4] It is considered a landmark of the city and a main symbol of modern Brazilian architecture. This iconic chair was designed by the Italian-born Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) for the MASP's auditorium when it still was placed on 7th April street. The writer and curator Pietro Maria Bardi, her husband, says that in 1947 she did not find any modern chair in São Paulo for the auditorium. Lina Inspired by the circus designed a simple chair, foldable and stackable. Bo Bardi devoted her life to promoting the social and cultural potential of Brazilian architecture and design. Her extensive production includes architectural projects, modern furniture, expography, and publications. Original edition licensed by Instituto Bardi that owns the copyright, produced and marketed exclusively under the ETEL trademark.
