Dutch Modernist Pioneer Coen de Vries Sleeping Sofa, Devo, 1952
About the Item
Coen de Vries has to be considered as a leading figure and Pioneer of Dutch Modernism after World War II.
With his own company Devo the Hague and his close involvement in the 'Goed Wonen' program (a monthly magazine to stimulate modernism in the Dutch living rooms) he introduced simple modern functional furniture to the Dutch interiors.
This conversation or sleeping sofa is one of his designs, it can easily be transformed into a bed and is ideal for in a guest room or house.
A sofa from the our Dutch Design collection was exhibited in the 'From the Guggenheim collection to the Cobra Museum Amstelveen' that was held earlier this year.
Currently it is still in use for their running exhibition on Asger Jorn till January 2015 (see photo's from Cobra Museum).
This example has been re-upholstered in a top quality van der Ploeg fabric in two tones.
When as a daybed it measures 88.25 x 31.75 x 18/26.125.

- Serge Haelterman Functional Pop Art Modular Seating Jzuz Living Elements BelgianBy Serge Haelterman & Steven Brouns, JZUZ LivingelementsLocated in bergen op zoom, NLUnique and out of production functional seating elements by Belgian designers Serge Haelterman and Steven Brouns. These elements are made of high end foam covered with an elastic coated fabric that can be cleaned easily and feels like a latex rubber. NIKE purchased several of these JZUZ Elements for their shops in Europe Measures: Green element 82.67inch/210cm x 27.55inch/70cm x Height 27.55inch/70cm Orange element 55.12inch/140cm x 55.12inch/140cm x Height 27.55inch/70cm Orange block element 27.55inch/70cm x 27.55inch/70cm x Height 27.55inch/70cm I taken this text from Serge Haelterman's website: Right after I graduated as an Industrial designer back in 1999 I started a furniture brand together with my friend Steven Brouns. We felt there was a need for a new type of furniture that was able to adjust itself to the ever changing life situations. Hence the name Livingelements. The name JZUZ was conceived because we believed we had to spread the message of this new kind of living. The first elements were a u and a square shaped seating element. They were in fact a deconstruction of a regular sofa. This deconstruction led to a whole range of new possibilities. When combining both elements you could construct all kinds of different 'living' setups. After this followed the room devider...Category
