About the Item
An exceptional 19th century ormolu mounted ebonised and amaranth vitrine.
The domed cresting surmounted by a festoon of oak leaves above a frieze of garlands including a drawer with a ribbon-tied cartouche, the glazed lower part with turned columns and a single door enclosing a walnut interior with a shelf, on a moulded plinth with laurel decorated mounts, on bun feet, stamped: CREMER MARQUETEUR.

Artists Biography:
Joseph Cremer was one of the most renowned marqueteurs of the mid-nineteenth century in France. He supplied furniture to Louis-Philippe and the King of Holland. Cremer exhibited at major exhibitions, winning medals in 1839, 1844, 1849 and 1852. At the 1855 Paris Exposition Universelle he was described by the Jury as "un maître."
