Antique Queen Anne George II Georgian Walnut Chest on Stand Highboy, Circa 1740
About the Item
A fine & handsome walnut Queen Anne chest on stand/highboy, dating to the early George II period, circa 1740.
This unusually diminuitive highboy is made of the finest figured walnut, the highboy having a stepped cornice above two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, the base having a single long drawer. The highboy retains all the original polished brass escutcheons and handles, and is raised on stout cabriole legs terminating to splayed pad feet.
Very often such period tallboys can have top drawers that are difficult to access, this original chest on stand is of a much more accommodating height, allowing the owner to easily access the top drawers. Condition is very good, no veneer issues or losses, the highboy has a lovely rich mellow patina and is ready to grace your home.
Provenance; From a Country house collection, Shropshire, United Kingdom
