Mixed-Media Machine Box

About the Item

“Cut & Paste” collection by Kiki van Eijk is based on personality and emotion found within an object. By first making hundreds of sketches, seven final objects have just “appeared” With these diverse references such as wheel, cart, high clock, bird cage, niche, farm, bourgeois, Primitive, complicated, rich, poor, they almost transform into seven curiosities. Each curiosity becomes much more than just an object; it creates it’s own imaginary and personal world; very autonomous. Each object is an assembly of colours, forms and materials such as solid wood, brass, copper, ceramics, textiles, mirror, steel. It represents the joy and importance of “making things” by hand without computers and really “designing by making”. The pieces show Kiki’s big love for materials, experimentation, tactility, research, sketches, context, settings, proportions, curiosities and every-day beauty. The Machine box: a half circular white shiny shape with two little half circular mirrors covers the other half of the circle made of blue wool felt with Royal Blue hand stitching. This whole circle is being carried by an oak frame with gold rope. The circle can be used as a container or box to store goods. Merely with its references to heavy duty machines, it creates a remembrance of the joy and importance of being and working in the workshop.

  • Una 'Articolo Indeterminativo' Wood and Glass Bar Cabinet
    By Stefano Marolla
    Located in Roma, IT
The bar cabinet wall piece is the second piece of the collection Una (Articolo Indeterminativo) by Stefano Marolla. The name of the collection comes from the Italian grammar where the indeterminative article precedes a non-identified noun. The objects play on the ambiguity of the matter than can deceive the eye: a sturdy element like wood, hand-curved and levigated, looks like a light tapestry. The curves and the soft drapery of the wood are inspired by a long and attentive study on the usage of drapery in art’s history, going back from the ancient Greece to Bernini’s sculptures...

The buffet is the first item of the collection Una (Articolo Indeterminativo) by the Italian woodworker Stefano Marolla.
