Framed Mixed Media Collage 'Hot Seat II' by Ilana Harris-Babou
About the Item
Framed original, one-of-a-kind mixed media collage work on paper by Contemporary Black artist Ilana Harris-Babou.
Additional Information:
This cheeky, colorful and contemporary mixed media collage is composed from images of seating Harris-Babou culled from interior design magazines and catalogues. The artist implements gouache paint, graphite pencil and bright pigments to create these bold statement pieces. This piece is one of a series of five unique works that can be sold in a group, and each is matted and framed in a white wood frame.
In the artist's own words, "I'm interested in the traces our bodies leave behind. Recently, I was sitting on a subway seat when I felt the distinct sensation of heat left by the person who was sitting there before me. The feeling was both unnerving and intimate. In the collages... I combined imagery from high-end design catalogues with pictures I found online. When I typed phrases like "butt imprint chair" or "leather seat butt trace" into Google, I found a wide array of interesting results. There were fetish communities, furniture repair blogs, Q & A
message boards, among others. I'm like how the "failure" of these seat cushions to maintain their form under our weight makes them relatable, repellant, and seductive all at once."

- Colorful Murano Glass Venetian Mask Wall Mirror 'The Clown'By BarbiniLocated in New York, NYVibrant and lively mirror that enhances any room with bold charisma and creativity. Additional Information: This piece is from a series of mirrors inspired by Italian Mannerist painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo, composed of swirls, rosettes, flowers and leaves - some of the most typical elements of craftwork on Venetian mirrors - in the place of beards, eyes, noses and hair. The mask and the mirror are both typical Venetian artistic products: combining the two creates a new mask which maintains the decorative details typical of the antique Venetian mirror while downplaying any seriousness with irony and levity. These playful, exuberant and riotously colorful wall mirrors are produced by an illustrious family of master Venetian glassmakers, prominent for centuries as the finest glass artisans in the world, known today as Barbini Specchi Veneziani. This series ('Ms. Italia', 'The Clown', 'The Biker'), designed by Lucia Massari...Category
